A former Notre Dame running back target that wound up at Clemson has entered the transfer portal.
Chez Mellusi, a junior running back who was expected to compete for the Tigers starting running back job this fall, is exploring the option to transfer.
Mellusi has the experience that much of Clemson’s backfield lacks entering the 2021 season, but he was hardly a superstar in his time, either. Obviously, Clemson relied heavily on Travis Etienne the last few years but ran for only 427 yards and six touchdowns his first two years at Clemson.
The Naples, Florida native chose Clemson over Miami and Notre Dame, both of which were finalists for the 2019 recruit.
Depth is never a bad thing to have and you can never say never, but of all the places Notre Dame seeks it, running back would appear to be an unlikely place they would currently be trying to fill an obvious need.
