The LSU football program plans to remove former star running back Derrius Guice from the school’s record books, a university spokesman told ESPN’s Heather Dinich.
On Aug. 7, 2020, Guice was arrested by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia. Guice faces charges that include one felony count of strangulation, as well as counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property.
The arrest of Guice took place after three incidents were reported to the Montgomery County police department in Maryland, where the person whom Guice is alleged to have abused resides.
The Washington Football Team subsequently released Guice.
Later that same month, two women accused Guice of sexual assault that allegedly occurred during two separate instances when Guice was a freshman at LSU in 2016.
Once these allegations were made public, another former LSU student came forward stating she had filed a police report in 2016 alleging that Guice took a partially nude photo of her without her permission, then shared it with his teammates, a felony under Louisiana state law.
The pattern of questionable character continued into 2021, when on March 26th, Guice was accused of sexual harassment by a 74-year-old woman. Gloria Scott was working security at the Superdome back in 2017, when she alleges the sexual harassment by Guice had occurred.
ESPN’s Heather Dinich reported the decision to ban Guice from the program and its record books Friday. LSU is expected to ban Guice from the program indefinitely and is in the process of removing his name from the school’s record books.
LSU also plans to part ways with its law firm, Taylor Porter, as part of the widespread changes stemming from a review of its allegations against its athletic department released last month, per Dinich.
Guice played for LSU from 2015 through 2017. He started his freshman and sophomore seasons as a backup to Leonard Fournette. Against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Nov. 12, 2016, Guice rushed for 252 yards, which is the second-most in a game in LSU history. Against Texas A&M on Nov. 24, 2016, Guice set the LSU single-game record by rushing for 285 yards.
Guice then entered the 2018 NFL draft – he was widely predicted to be drafted in the first round.
Then he wasn’t.
Guice fell out of the first round entirely due to questions about his character as well as previous incidents that arose throughout the draft process.
Guice was eventually drafted by Washington, in the second round, No. 59 overall.
