PFF examines Vikings’ dream scenario at pick 14

This pick would be a huge win for the Vikings considering their struggles on the offensive line.

Over at Pro Football Focus, writer Michael Renner took a look at the absolute dream scenario for each team at their respected spot in the first round.

For the Vikings, Renner went with Northwestern tackle Rashawn Slater, who many expect to be a top-10 pick.

Here’s what Renner wrote about the fit:

This is the absolute floor for Slater, but it would truly be a dream scenario for the Vikings. The Northwestern product would handle himself exceptionally well in the Vikings’ outside-zone-heavy scheme and would be just what the doctor ordered in pass protection at any position.

After releasing Riley Reiff this offseason, the Vikings have a huge hole at left tackle. Even before releasing Reiff, the offensive line was a huge weakness for this team heading into the 2021 season.

Drafting an offensive lineman isn’t always the sexy move, but for a team like the Vikings, it’s absolutely the right move. If the Vikings can somehow end up with Slater in the first round, that would be a massive win for Vikings GM Rick Spielman.
