NFL Network host has Washington going running back in 1st round

With just nine days until the 2021 NFL draft, mock drafts continue to come out daily and most make sense.

On Tuesday, we found one that doesn’t really make sense — at least for the Washington Football Team.

Peter Schrager of “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network released his second mock draft of the year and has Washington going with a running back at No. 19 overall.

Yes, a running back.

Schrager has Clemson’s Travis Etienne going to WFT and offers the following analysis:

First-round running backs might be a dying breed, but I love this addition to Scott Turner’s offense. Etienne is electric between the tackles and in the open field as a ball carrier but also adds value in the passing game. Washington still needs another playmaker or two on offense to be a threat in the NFC.

I don’t disagree with anything Schrager said about Etienne. He is a special back. Just look at his career at Clemson. He can do it all. He should go in the first round, based on his talent alone.

Just not to Washington.

Running back is a luxury pick, especially for a team with some significant needs like Washington. Perhaps if Etienne fell to the second round, maybe, but I still do not see it.

Washington will add a running back in the 2021 NFL draft, but I do not see it happening until day three.
