Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz has been given 40/1 odds to win NFL MVP during the 2021 season, according to BetMGM.
Having 40/1 odds is pretty long but that ties him for the 12th-highest among quarterbacks with Baker Mayfield holding the same odds. Two running backs in Christian McCaffery and Derrick Henry also have better odds to win MVP.
It’s no surprise that Patrick Mahomes and 2020 MVP Aaron Rodgers are leading the way. The Chiefs seem primed to make another Super Bowl appearance while Rodgers came back with a vengeance despite his team wasting the first two picks of the draft in 2020.
Wentz has a long way to go before he is in the MVP conversation again. The last time he was in the discussion was 2017. He wound up tearing his ACL during the second half of the season, paving the way for Nick Foles to help lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl.
If the Colts can fix Wentz’s mechanics and get his mind right behind an elite offensive line, there’s a good chance he bounces back from a horrid 2020 campaign.
How far of a bounce-back remains to be seen but there seems to be plenty of optimism about the move to trade for Wentz.
