During Saturday’s spring game, many questioned what the offense would look like following former passing-game coordinator Joe Brady’s decision to leave LSU to join the Carolina Panthers coaching staff, but the scrimmage showed Orgeron exactly what he wanted to see.
Prior to Brady’s leave, he referred LSU’s new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz in hopes to continue the Tiger legacy, that legacy being the one that produced a Heisman Trophy winner, set multiple offensive records, and won a national title in 2019.
Peetz and new passing game coordinator DJ Mangas debuted a series of familiar formations including deep passes, long runs, and explosive touchdowns.
Although Orgeron previewed the spring game saying it would be fairly “vanilla” meaning we wouldn’t see many complicated schemes, the play-calling showed hints of the offense fans are used to seeing under Joe Brady.

Key players were rotated while running a spread offense during the scrimmage. Running backs and receivers motioned in and around the backfield to create different looks and matchups. Quarterbacks also played at a quick tempo to keep the Tiger defense on their heels.
As a result we saw standout highlights from the offense including a 47-yard passing touchdown from Max Johnson and big runs from Tyrion Davis-Price.
Following the scrimmage, Orgeron says there is still much more coming for the upcoming season.
We’ll see what’s in store in the fall.
