It’s one thing for the Boston Celtics to beat the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s another thing to put up 40 points while doing so.
That’s exactly what Jaylen Brown did last night, as the Celtics outlasted the Lakers, 121-113. to win their fifth straight game.
But there’s much more to that 40-point performance. Brown became the first Celtic since the NBA merger to score 40 points in a game while shooting 85% or better, shooting 17-of-20 from the field last night, per Stat Muse.

But that’s not all — Brown also joined elite company last night, becoming just the third NBA player this season to score 40 points on 85% shooting or better, per Celtics reporter Taylor Snow. Brown joined Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Toronto’s Gary Trent to score such efficient feat.
Prior to this season, such performance had only happened twice in the last 13 years.
Brown’s continued ascendance as a two-way star for the Celtics, averaging a career-high 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting career-high’s from the floor (49.3%) and 3-point land (40%), alongside fellow All-Star Jayson Tatum gives Boston a formidable 1-2 punch for the foreseeable future to compete for a championship.
