The Vikings signed S Xavier Woods this offseason, but the team could always use more depth at the safety position.
That’s probably why Minnesota is meeting with safety draft prospects. Iowa’s Lawrence White IV has met virtually with the Vikings, Cowboys, Colts, Eagles, Falcons and Raiders, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network. He ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, so he could provide some upside as a reserve option.
Last season, the Vikings played Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris the vast majority of defensive snaps. However, it could help to have options beyond the starters, especially now that Harris has left.
White had two pass breakups and an interception in his final collegiate season with the Cyclones. The season before that, he had six passes defended and two interceptions. He’d likely be a late-round pick or an undrafted free agent, so it wouldn’t cost the Vikings a lot to land him.
