A day after Sam Darnold was sent to the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets GM Joe Douglas met the media.
Douglas said if the team was selecting any lower than second overall, it would have kept Darnold as its quarterback.
That sounds a bit odd for a team that was only able to get a second- and fourth-round pick in 2022 and sixth-rounder in 2021 for the QB it took with the third overall pick from USC in 2018.
That out of the way, Douglas was asked if ESPN’s Steve Young was correct in his assessment the Jets were focused on BYU QB Zach Wilson with the second overall pick in the NFL draft later this month.
What did Joe Douglas think when ESPN analyst/Hall of Fame QB Steve Young reported the Jets are "committed" to taking BYU QB Zach Wilson at No. 2?
Said the Jets GM: “Steve's plugged in to BYU pretty well. …”
