We’re a little more than knee-deep into spring ball, with practice ongoing and likely to culminate relatively soon.
The Wolverines took the field in early March, much earlier than it had planned to in 2020, thus saving themselves from the issue a year ago where they got no practices under their belt before coronavirus-based cancellations.
Having spring practice should make a huge difference, as the new defensive scheme is getting implemented while the offense gets a bona fide opportunity to refine itself. Younger players get to be that much more acclimated while older players can likewise hone their skills.
However, the maize and blue have been especially mum this spring, with there being little indication of how it’s going, who’s standing out or what the season will look like. In previous years, how players performed in spring was (usually, but not always) an indicator of how they’d perform in the fall. But this is a team in flux, after having gone 2-4 last season and with plenty of potential contributors coming in over the summer.
With that in mind, here are 10 bold predictions for Michigan football in 2021, with the caveat that we’re still in spring ball, and much is likely to change between now and when the Wolverines actually take the field in September.
