The Cincinnati Bengals recently dropped a hint for fans that Joe Burrow is back throwing the football at Paul Brown Stadium.

That did a number of things for Bengals fans. One, it was thrilling. Two, it was a little confusing — Burrow’s projected timetable to get back to throwing was mid-February, yet the team hadn’t said a peep about it and an evolved social media team had never shown any of it.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Tyler Dragon on the “Bengals Beat Podcast,” Burrow indeed started throwing on the expected timetable:

“He is now 17 weeks post-operation…In February he started light linear running. In late February-early March, he started throwing. Nothing strenuous, he wasn’t dropping back, throwing bombs, planting on his plant leg…”

So why no videos or commentary from the team? They’re protecting their guy, especially after an A.J. Green debacle:

“The Bengals want to be extremely cautious with him. That is why you don’t seen a whole lot of videos. You’re not seeing him throw passes. You’re not seeing him run around. They want to protect him. They did not do that with A.J. Green.”

Two years ago, the Bengals talked consistently about Green’s return timetable, only for his hurt ankle to never heal properly. The goal appears to be avoiding a similar situation should Burrow suffer a setback or delay in his return timetable.

One can’t blame fans for noticing the lack of social media posts and such from a team that is suddenly so active and good at it, of course. But for now, it will continue to be radio silence on this front.

Not to worry though: It’s a safe bet Burrow will be front and center in the team’s reveal of the new jerseys this month.
