Miguel Cabrera hilariously slid into second on a home run after snow obstructed his view

Respect that hustle.

Thursday was Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, but because winters last like seven months in Michigan, the Detroit area was dealing with snow.

That didn’t put a stop to the baseball action, but it definitely did make it interesting.

Miguel Cabrera — at 37 years old — hit the first home run of the 2021 MLB season with his opposite-field shot off of Cleveland’s Shane Bieber. But because the snow was so heavy, Cabrera didn’t seem exactly certain that his hit had left the ballpark.

Instead, he hustled out of the box and went full speed into second base with a slide. On a home run.

To be fair, that’s exactly how you’d want Cabrera to handle that situation — particularly if visibility was poor. The Tigers would much rather have him slide into second on a home run than jog on a hit that stayed in play.

That’s part of the fun of snow baseball, I guess. Also, this video is sweet.
