With UF’s spring practice schedule in the books, now’s the time when players who aren’t happy with their role on the team heading into the fall look for greener pastures. Eight Florida players had already entered the transfer portal since the 2020 season began, and on Wednesday, redshirt freshman cornerback Jahari Rogers made it nine. The former four-star recruit from Texas has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.
Ranked as the No. 8 cornerback in the country and No. 87 player overall on the 247Sports Composite, the Arlington native was the Gators’ fourth-highest ranked signee in the 2020 class. He saw action in three games this season, first against Missouri without recording a stat and then in the final two games against Alabama in the SEC Championship and Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.
(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));
Against the Crimson Tide, he had two tackles (one solo), and he deflected a pass in the Cotton Bowl. With Florida’s defensive sit-outs in that game, he saw an increased role against the Sooners, and with his redshirt preserved, he was expected to be a contributor among a cornerback group that has to replace Marco Wilson (NFL draft) and Chester Kimbrough (transferred to Michigan State).
Now, the only experienced players returning at the position are Kaiir Elam, who started most of last season, and Jaydon Hill, who started five games in 2020. It was already going to be a group of considerable concern for the Gators, and with Rogers’ departure, it just gets even thinner in 2021.
