2021 free agency: Jags host former Chiefs LB Damien Wilson

The Jags are continuing to look for defensive help and brought in Chiefs linebacker Damien Wilson for a visit.

Per the NFL’s transaction report, former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Damien Wilson visited the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday.

Wilson, 27, was a fourth round selection (No. 127 overall) for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Minnesota. While there he started in 22 games and  was able to garner 121 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks. In 2019, he joined the Chiefs and registered 29 total regular season starts in two seasons. He ended his time there with 154 combined tackles and 1.5 sacks while also aiding the Chiefs to a Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

According to the Chiefs Wire, Wilson can play both the SAM and WILL linebacker positions. That said, the Jags’ interest in him could mean they are looking for competition at the strong-side linebacker spot and possibly a backup interior linebacker.

Wilson registered a Pro Football Focus grade of 51.8 last season. His pass-rush grade was 64.4 and he registered a 60.7 against the run.
