Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed is expected to be released after the team was unable to locate a suitable trade partner.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted the news Friday afternoon.
“After spending much of today attempting to trade DT Jarran Reed, source said it’s looking like a release for the #Seahawks starting DT,” Rapoport wrote. “Rare for a free agent of this caliber to be available now, but extenuating circumstances.”
The possibility of Seattle parting ways with Reed surfaced on Thursday, so some sort of impending move was expected.
Because of the decreased salary cap this season, clubs like the Seahawks are having to make some difficult decisions and it looks like Reed is going to be one of the latest victims.
