Chiefs to sign former Seahawks DT Jarran Reed

The Kansas City Chiefs have a new defensive tackle on the team.

Sometimes being patient pays off.

The Kansas City Chiefs are certainly feeling that way on Sunday as they’ve agreed to terms with one of the top remaining free agents available on the defensive line. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs are set to sign former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed. The report was also confirmed by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Reed was a late addition to the free-agent pool after Seattle and the veteran defensive tackle couldn’t come to an agreement on a restructured contract. The Chiefs are coming in and taking advantage, signing Reed to a one-year deal after he hit the free-agent market.

A former second-round draft pick out of the University of Alabama, Reed (6-3, 304 pounds) is known as a pass-rushing defensive tackle. He has appeared in 72 total games with the Seahawks, starting 63 games over five seasons. During that span, he has recorded 194 total tackles, 22 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 58 QB hits.

Pairing Reed with Chris Jones is a no-brainer. This move will make the interior pass rush in Kansas City among the best in the NFL. Teams will be faced with the impossible task of deciding which of the two defensive tackles to double team.
