One of the many of their own free agents the Arizona Cardinals re-signed was veteran offensive lineman Max Garcia. He agreed to a one-year contract for the third straight offseason.
His contract is for the league minimum, qualifies for a veteran exemption against the salary cap and has very little in the way of guarantees.
According to Spotrac, he gets a signing bonus of $68,750. His salary is $990,000, the minimum for a player with between 4-6 credited seasons in the league. If he makes the Week 1 roster, he will get a roster bonus of $68,750. None of his salary is guaranteed, so if he does not make the team, his deal will only count the amount of his signing bonus in dead money.
Although his contract will pay him more than $1.12 million this year if he makes the team, because of the veteran exemption, his cap hit will be only $987,500, a savings of $140,000 against the cap/
Garcia appeared in 14 games last season, playing mostly on the line for special teams. He had 69 offensive snaps on the season.
