WR A.J. Green’s contract includes voided years to lower cap hit in 2021

Wide receiver A.J. Green’s contract will only count $3.5 million against the salary cap this year for the Arizona Cardinals.

One of the Arizona Cardinals’ key free agent acquisitions this offseason has been receiver A.J. Green, who spent the last decade with the Cincinnati Bengals.

They agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract. However, with new details about his contract, we know the cap hit in 2021 will be much less than that.

Green’s contract has a pair of voided years for 2022 and 2023 to spread out the signing bonus cap hit.

According to Over the Cap, Green gets a $3.75 million signing bonus. His 2021 salary is $2.25 million and is fully guaranteed.

He also has $2.5 million in available incentives.

His cap hit in 2021 will be only $3.5 million. The 2022 and 2023 years on the deal void five days before the start of the 2022 league year, which will give the Cardinals $2.5 million in dead money towards next year’s cap, unless the voided years are made live and he is extended.
