The facts and figures of Vikings LB Anthony Barr’s restructure

Here are some notes regarding the Minnesota Vikings restructuring with LB Anthony Barr amid the 2021 offseason.

With seemingly little cap space heading into this offseason, the Vikings have made plenty of moves to free up space for 2021.

The team’s latest move is a restructure with LB Anthony Barr. As reported by Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune, Barr’s cap hit on this season will be just over $6.1 million with the base salary being $1 million.

Over the Cap has already updated the Vikings’ cap space for 2021. The outlet reported that Minnesota now has a little more than $10.3 million in cap space.

As it stands, that would leave enough room to sign another free agent. Though the Vikings still have to sign draft picks and undrafted free agents this offseason, TE Kyle Rudolph’s designation on the salary cap should help free up some space for that.

Barr’s move certainly helps the team for this offseason as well. The Vikings linebacker is important for the defense, as evidenced by how poorly that unit played in his absence. That said, Barr’s cap hit was huge and Minnesota needed a way to find more cap space.
