Colts free agent S Malik Hooker to visit Cowboys

Malik Hooker has a visit in Dallas.

Indianapolis Colts free agent safety Malik Hooker is visiting the Dallas Cowboys next week, per Todd Archer of ESPN.

The former first-round pick was expected to hit the market after tearing his Achilles early on in the 2020 season. Despite his talent, Hooker struggled to stay healthy and his little impact against the run forced the Colts to look at a prospect like Julian Blackmon, who had a strong rookie campaign.

Hooker still has plenty of upside for a team needing a safety. He’s still young at 25 years old and as long as the Achilles injury doesn’t impact his range, there’s a chance he can be a solid player in a defensive rotation.

Hooker recorded seven interceptions in 36 games (35 starts) with the Colts since he was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. On top of that, he has just one tackle for loss in his career.

It’s unlikely the Colts are going to re-sign Hooker like they did with Marlon Mack, but the Cowboys could take a chance on the Ohio State product.
