The Philadelphia 76ers have a nice group of players as they continue their journey looking to win a championship, but they also have a crop of rookies who are looking to continue to develop and turn heads.
The team’s three rookies consist of Tyrese Maxey, Isaiah Joe, and Paul Reed, and the three of them have had solid rookie seasons for being on such a veteran team and not really having much of a chance to earn playing time.
Joe, for one, has shown off other aspects of his game that maybe some did not know about him. Obviously, everybody knew he was a terrific shooter over at Arkansas, but he has continued to show off other parts of his game such as being able to put the ball on the floor as well as being a solid defender.
“He’s developing. He works his butt off,” said coach Doc Rivers. “Isaiah’s skills, he knows what he is. Which is, he can really shoot the ball, he can shoot the ball off the catch, he’s working on his dribble. He’s already an NBA defender, which is nice for a shooter that’s really said and he already is. He’s gonna be a good player.”
Joe and Reed made a big impact in the G League bubble with the Delaware Blue Coats while Maxey was continuing to put in work with the Sixers at the NBA level, but they all have been able to make an impression on Rivers.
“We have a great crop of rookies,” he added. “Our guys, they work, man. They’re in the gym every day this morning. I walked into watch film, lights are on, already in there already. So, we have a good group of these guys.”
It is clear that the Sixers have a lot of young guys who work hard so it will be interesting to see if they can make a dent in Philadelphia’s rotation in the near future.
