Anthony Edwards leads all rookies in 20-point games this season

The No. 1 overall pick has now scored at least 20 points in seven of his last eight games for the Timberwolves.

Just two nights after producing a career-high 34 points, Anthony Edwards followed that performance up with another stellar effort on Tuesday versus the Los Angeles Lakers.

Edwards tied a team-high with 29 points and four rebounds during a 137-121 loss to the Lakers. He finished by shooting 11-of-22 from the field, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range, and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in 38 minutes of action.

With the performance, Edwards has now totaled 14 games this season with at least 20 points, which leads all rookies. His 14 20-point games tie Andrew Wiggins and Christian Laettner for the most such performances by a Timberwolves rookie through the first 40 games of a career.

Edwards, over his last eight games, has been on a complete tear. He has scored at least 19 points in each of those contests and is averaging 24.5 points over that span. Including Tuesday night, Edwards has produced at least 20 points in seven of his last eight games.

During his career night on Sunday in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers, Edwards became the youngest player in team history to score 30 points at 19 years and 221 days. He also became just the fourth rookie in team history to hit at least six 3-pointers in that game.

Unfortunately, the offensive outburst hasn’t resulted in very many wins for the Timberwolves, who are now 9-31 on the season. However, the organization should certainly be happy with how Edwards is playing as of late with wins few and far between.
