The Jacksonville Jaguars already re-signed one of their young defensive players in Dawuane Smoot on Day 1 of the tampering period and started Day 2 by doing the same. This time, it was Sidney Jones who NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported would be re-joining the Jags after testing the open market.
The #Jaguars are expected to re-sign CB Sidney Jones, source said, as the former #Eagles second-rounder is back for another year in Jax.

Jones, 24, joined the Jags last season after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent Week 1 on their practice squad and was activated before the Jags’ Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans but didn’t end up starting until Week 5 against the Houston Texans.
In his debut as a starter, Jones hit the ground running and was able to accumulate four pass breakups and a pick along with three tackles. He had several flashes the following weeks, however, an Achilles injury sidelined him from Weeks 10-12. He eventually returned Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers but went on injured reserve afterward. That ultimately ended Jones’ season, and he ended it with 26 tackles and two picks.
Jones showed the ability to be a solid boundary cornerback in 2020, but just as they were in his time before coming to Jacksonville, injuries played a part in him maximizing his potential. For that reason, the Jags should still be looking to add a starting corner this offseason, which would give them more depth at the position for competition, and options if he can’t stay healthy.
