EDGE Yannick Ngakoue 2-year deal with Raiders entirely guaranteed

Do you want to get a free agent to sign with you? Tell him the money on the contract is real money and not just theoretical as many NFL contracts are. That’s pretty much what the Raiders did with their deal with Yannick Ngakoue Monday.

The Raiders came on strong out the gates, offering Ngakoue a two-year deal in which all $26 million is guaranteed according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Now, mind you, there is that tricky difference between guaranteed and *fully* guaranteed, which will get you. It means the full $26 million in his contract isn’t *really* guaranteed until the second year except for injury. But $22 million of it sure is. No matter what. He would just be shorted the other $4 million if he is cut prior to next season.

A lot of people saw the initial numbers with former Raiders WR Nelson Agholor’s deal with the Patriots were the exact same as Ngakoue’s and said ‘hey, that’s a good trade-off. But Agholor’s deal only reaches $26 with incentives. The base deal is $22 million over two seasons and we have yet to see what kind of guaranteed money is in it. Highly doubtful it’s near the percentage of guaranteed money that Ngakoue got.

That’s not to say it should be. Ngakoue has had a much more successful career, never dipping below eight sacks in a season, while Agholor is coming off a season in which he rebounded after a disappointing first five years.
