Hilarious video breaks down how a Pirates player struck out and got hit by the same pitch

Ouch.

This coming baseball season is expected to be a rough one for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and we’re already seeing that play out in spring training.

Just ask Tony Wolters.

The Pirates catcher, who signed with the team this offseason on a minor-league deal, made rounds over the weekend for his part in the most unfortunate of baseball highlights.

During Saturday’s Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, Wolters struck out swinging on an inside slider from Darren O’Day that actually hit him on the upper thigh. Wolters dropped to the ground — probably out of shame from the embarrassing strikeout.

But how exactly did such a K happen? Jomboy Media came through with an excellent breakdown of the at-bat.

Initially, it appeared that Wolters took the pitch to the groin, and much of the internet thought he did. But the replay showed he took the pitch to the thigh.

Still painful! Still sort of funny!

And it’s still going to be a long season for the Pirates.
