This upcoming season marks the 50-year anniversary of the Oklahoma-Nebraska “Game of the Century.” A game the Sooners lost 35-31 as the No. 2 team in the country facing the No. 1 Cornhuskers. Fast forward to 2021, it was supposed to be 50 years later the two teams would go head to head in Norman, Oklahoma.
According to a report from Brett McMurphy of Stadium, the Cornhuskers are trying to get out of the game. This comes on the heels of the last season in which Nebraska was looking to schedule opponents despite the fact the Big Ten Conference had decided to cancel its football season before reversing course.

The optics of this situation look awful and weak for a major football program. The game was set for Sept. 18 in Norman, followed by a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska in the 2022 season. If Nebraska were able to ‘get out of’ playing Oklahoma this upcoming season, it remains unclear as to how that would impact the 2022 game in Lincoln.
These two teams haven’t met since the 2010 Big 12 Championship that OU won 23-20. The Sooners have won four of the last five and own the all-time series with their former conference rivals 45-38-3.
