Washington guard Brandon Scherff signed his franchise tender today, per the transaction wire. That guarantees his more than $19 million salary for 2021 and the team has until July 15 to work out a long-term deal.

As was expected, Washington right guard Brandon Scherff has signed his franchise tag tender with the team, locking him down for the 2021 season at the very least, if no long-term contract is negotiated between the two parties.
While the two sides will continue to try and strike a bargain on a long-term deal that will keep Scherff in Washington for the foreseeable future, we at least know now that he won’t be going anywhere in 2021. He will play at $18.03 million if a new contract is not agreed upon.
Washington has until July 15th to try and get a long-term deal done with Scherff, or else he will count towards the salary cap with that $18 million number, and his chances of negotiating a new deal in the future get much harder.
