While the Tennessee Titans have said goodbye to some of their players in recent days, it appears punter Brett Kern will survive the recent purge.
According to Turron Davenport of ESPN, Tennessee is picking up the option on Kern’s contract for 2021 and 2022, keeping him in the two-tone blue for two more seasons.
Kern will get a $250,000 roster bonus on the fifth day of the new league year and will carry cap hits of $3.25 and $3.75 million in the final two years of his deal, per Spotrac. His 2021 cap hit is the third-highest among all punters.
Since joining the Titans in 2010, Kern has emerged as one of the best punters in the NFL and is a three-time Pro Bowler and former First-Team All-Pro (2019).
Kern did a three-week stint on Injured Reserve in 2020 due to a wrist injury, marking the first season since 2014 that he didn’t play in all 16 games.
When healthy, the veteran wasn’t called on to punt much, as he had less than half the amount of punts he totaled in 2019 thanks to the Titans’ elite offense. Kern averaged 45.8 yards per punt and had a long of 66.
