Tennessee traveled to Charlotte Tuesday to play the 49ers at Hayes Field.
Charlotte shut out the Volunteers, 9-0.
The loss is Tennessee’s third of the season (11-3).
In the contest, Tennessee fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Charlotte pitchers held UT to just five hits, all singles.
Liam Spence, however, went 2-for-4 against the 49ers (8-3). Luc Lipcius, Drew Gilbert and Pete Derkay had Tennessee’s other base hits.
Charlotte designated hitter Will Butcher had three hits and knocked in five runs as he produced a pair of two-run homers.
Tennessee transfer and 49ers’ third baseman Austin Knight went 1-for-5 and scored a run against his former team.
