Report: Titans won’t place tender on WR Kalif Raymond

This likely spells the end of Kalif Raymond in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly set to allow restricted free agent wide receiver Kalif Raymond to hit the open market this offseason, which will likely spell the end of his time in Nashville.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Titans won’t place a tender on Raymond, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent and sign anywhere he pleases.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

After all, Raymond, who made some big catches in 2019 and was a standout during training camp in 2020, failed to make an impact when the team was sorely lacking depth at the position last season.

Raymond hauled in just nine catches in 15 games in his second season in Nashville and was on the field for just 23 percent of snaps.

The Holy Cross product did contribute in the return game, where he averaged a respectable 18.3 yards per kick return and nine yards per punt return; however, both of those numbers were down from the year prior.

While Raymond’s time in Nashville was brief, he did create a lasting memory that Titans fans won’t soon forget. His huge 45-yard touchdown grab during the Divisional Round game against the Baltimore Ravens is right up there with some of the biggest plays in franchise history.

Unfortunately, Raymond’s last play in the two-tone blue didn’t have the same positive impact, as he fell down on a second-down pass from Ryan Tannehill in the fourth quarter of the wild-card game versus the Ravens this past season, leading to an interception that ended the Titans’ 2020 campaign.

With Raymond gone, the Titans have a little more work to do at the wide receiver position, and now must find a new return man. We assume that Darrynton Evans will take at least one of those return roles.
