For the first time ever, Auburn travels to State College to play Penn State on Sept. 18. It is only the third matchup between the two powerhouses with both teams winning a bowl game against each other.
With a new coaching staff for Auburn and a young team not expected to compete for a SEC championship, it could be a springboard for the Tigers to greater things while Penn State is looking to get back on track after a disappointing 2020.
Per Athlon Sports, it is also one of the most intriguing non-conference matchups during the 2021 season.
“Everyone loves a good SEC vs. Big Ten matchup, and the first regular-season meeting ever between these two traditional powerhouses shouldn’t disappoint. New Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin will look to get the Tigers back on track behind the arm of Bo Nix following a 6-5 season that saw the Tigers lose three of their final four contests. Meanwhile, James Franklin hopes to get the Nittany Lions back to their winning ways after a disappointing 4-5 campaign. A win here would go a long way for both teams after taking a step backward last season.”
It will be an exciting matchup and, hopefully, we can see the two teams battle in a full Beaver Stadium.
