The Pittsburgh Steelers took their first step toward life without Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday. The team signed center J.C. Hassenauer to a one-year contract, locking up the exclusive rights free agent for the 2021 season.
Pouncey announced his retirement in February leaving a huge hole in the middle of the Steelers offensive line. Hassenauer started four games in 2020 in place of an injured Pouncey. Hassenauer isn’t an elite player but was solid in his place and should have the first opportunity to win the starting job even if the Steelers sign another veteran or spend a draft pick on one.
