Patriots WR N’Keal Harry explains why he’d love to have Cam Newton back

The third-year WR has a few different reasons for wanting Cam Newton back.

Until the New England Patriots figure out their quarterback situation, there’s going to be a guessing game from the public and even the players.

No one appears to know who the signal-caller will be for the team next season and the choices could come from the draft, free agency, a trade or even in-house. Cam Newton, 31, is a free agent this offseason but there’s speculation that he could return and have another shot to gain more comfortability and lead a revamped group in Foxborough.

Third-year receiver N’Keal Harry, who has had his struggles as well, vouched for Newton and said he love to have him back while speaking with The Boston Globe’s Nicole Yang.

“I would absolutely love to have Cam back,” Harry said. “He helped me so much throughout the season, not only on the field with football stuff but with off-the-field stuff, just more about being a professional, about life. He really helped me in all aspects of life last year, so I really do appreciate him for that.

“At the same time, he was a very fun person to play with. I would love to have him back and be able to play with him again.”

Harry had another tough season last year after tallying 33 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns over the course of 14 games. He was asked about his level of comfortability heading into next season and didn’t appear to feel the pressure.

“No,” Harry said. “To be honest, I’m just having fun with it and enjoying the game.”

For his doubters, he doesn’t have the time or energy to entertain them.

“I don’t have anything to say to them,” Harry said. “I do this for the people that believe in me, the people that have always supported me. I do this to perform to my own expectations. Nobody’s expectations are going to surpass the expectations I have for myself. To the naysayers, I don’t really have anything to say. I’m not worried about them. I’m pretty unfazed by them.”

It’s pretty clear that this will be a make-or-break year for the former first-round pick.
