The mother of former Notre Dame star Louis Nix has confirmed her son has died at 29.

Louis Nix had been missing since earlier in the week in Florida. On Saturday, the mother of the former Notre Dame star defensive lineman said her son has died at the age of 29.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office pulled a car from a pond near Nix’s apartment that matched his vehicle’s description on Saturday night. Nix was driving his gray four-door Hyundai Azera with Florida license plate number JGFM41when he left his father’s house Tuesday morning.

Nix starred at Notre Dame from 2011-13. Nix was a third-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2014. He had a short NFL career, playing in four games for the New York Giants in 2015.

Nix had been shot in December while filling his car’s tires with air at a gas station. Suspects attempted to rob the victim, one of the suspects shot him.
