Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was one of the most interesting things about the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020.
A bonafide modern franchise great, Dunlap forced his way out of town via trade and even took a pay cut in the process to make a deal with the Seattle Seahawks work.
Fast forward to now, Dunlap might just be headed to free agency.
According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Dunlap is a cut candidate because of his $14.1 million cap hit in 2021. A $3 million roster bonus due on March 21 could play a role in his becoming a free agent.
It’s sheerly a money thing for the Seahawks, as Dunlap was a force upon arrival in Seattle, generating five sacks and six tackles for loss over eight appearances.
It would be interesting to think Dunlap is on the open market as the Bengals go looking for pass-rushing help in free agency. Not that either party would have an interest in a reunion, but the odd journey both parties took to get to this point is something worth noting.
