Extra innings in Tennessee’s season-opening series finale netted a sweep for the Vols’ baseball team Sunday at Georgia Southern.
Liam Spence provided a grand slam home run during the 12-inning, giving Tennessee a 7-3 victory.
The No. 16 Vols improved to 3-0 with the win, while Georgia Southern dropped to 0-3.
Jordan Beck had a two-run double for Tennessee and catcher Jackson Greer recorded two hits and scored a run, while making his debut for the Vols.
Greer, a graduate of Knoxville Central High School, transferred and returned to his hometown after previously playing at East Tennessee State.
On the mound, Sean Hunley struck out four Eagles in 1.1 innings to earn his first win of the season.
Preseason All-America standout Jackson Leath went 5.2 innings of scoreless relief. He surrendered three hits and two walks, while recording six strikeouts.
Leath followed starter Elijah Pleasants, who gave up three runs (two earned) and five hits over five innings.
