Broner vs. Santiago: Tale of the tape

Adrien Broner

Broner (33-4-1, 1 no contest) returns to the ring after a 25-month layoff, and of course the biggest question will be whether “The Problem” has any rust. A series of legal issues derailed his career, but he is hungry to get back on top. Broner is still just 31 years old, and the four-time, multi-division champion and he is heavily favored against what most feel to be a tune-up fight against a tomato can. It might take a couple of rounds for Broner to get his sea legs after a lengthy hiatus, but you can expect him to take over by about the fifth round and end this thing before it gets to the seventh.

Jovanie Santiago

Santiago (14-0-1) is a fighter that is a bit of an unknown. He has registered 10 knockouts, but no one is seriously thinking he will be able to shock the world. Santiago doesn’t have nearly the power of a pre-layoff Broner, and there is no reason to believe “The Problem” won’t bring that same power to the ring Saturday. That’s going to be a problem for Santiago, who will easily be facing the most polished opponent of his career.

Broner (-750) is just way too expensive, costing you seven-and-a-half times your potential return on the 3-way line. That’s not a good long-term betting strategy, especially when it comes to a guy who hasn’t fought in over two calendar years. Let’s get more specific instead.

Instead, look to BRONER BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (+100) on even money. It might be a slow-go early on, but in individual round betting, target BRONER IN ROUND 6 (+1400), BRONER IN ROUND 7 (+1200) and BRONER IN ROUND 8 (+1200). Yes, you will lose two ends of that three-round block, but if Broner gets it done in Rounds 6-8, you will be well ahead. You can also get a little more wiggle room in Round Group Betting 2, taking BRONER IN ROUNDS 5-8 (+350). And if you want even more room for error, and you need not even bet a specific fighter, taking ROUNDS 7-12 (+200) in Round Group Betting 4 is a good chance to double up.
