Mock Draft Watch: Latest Fox Sports projection keeps the Jayson Oweh train rolling

Oweh has been the subject of several recent projections for the Browns

We have covered more than a few mock drafts lately. The most recent Fox Sports projection, which was written by Jason McIntyre, sees the Cleveland Browns drafting a familiar face in the mock draft community with Penn State defensive end, Jayson Oweh.

In this scenario, Kwity Paye, Gregory Rousseau, Christian Barmore & Jaelan Phillips are already off the board when the Browns pick at No. 26 overall, but McIntyre explains his reasoning behind the Oweh selection with the following,

“The knock on Jayson Oweh is lack of production – not a single sack last season – but his testing and measurements will be off the charts. Combine that with his size, and there’s no way he isn’t going in the first round.”

Other DE Options:

Joseph Ossai, Texas, 6-4, 255 pounds:

Ossai played the “Jack” role in the Longhorn defense, which is basically a stand-up defensive end and he arrived on the draft scene with an incredible performance in the 2019 Alamo Bowl against Utah when he tallied nine tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks. In this mock, Ossai was taken one selection later at 27th.

Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr., Wake Forest, 6-5. 275 pounds:

Basham has dominated the line of scrimmage the last two seasons in the ACC. He ld the Demon Deacons in sacks with five and forced fumbles with four on his way to earning All-ACC honors for the second season in a row. Basham was selected four spots later to the Buffalo Bills in this mock and should be on the table when Cleveland is on the clock.

Later Round DE Options:

Osa Odighizuwa, UCLA, 6-2, 282 pounds:

Odighizuwa has been a star for the UCLA defense the past two seasons and had another productive season in 2020 with six tackles for loss and four sacks in a COVID shortened season. The Bruins moved Odighizuwa all over the defensive line; that versatility can translate to the next level, but he may fit more permanently on the inside. The guy has intriguing athleticism as evidenced by making Bruce Feldman’s annual Freak List.

Joe Tryon, Washington, 6-5, 262 pounds:

Tryon is another superb athlete with good enough size to play on the edge in the NFL. The Washington defender opted out of the 2020 season, but was second-team All-PAC-12 after leading the Huskies in sacks with eight in 2019. Tryon should be available on day two considering he is more of a tweener than some of the day one edge rushers.
