Tobias Harris, Sixers discuss their lack of 3-point attempts recently

Tobias Harris and the Philadelphia 76ers discuss their lack of 3-point attempts in recent games.

The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that relies a lot on the play of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid for their success on the offensive end of the floor and in order to do that, they need the 3-point shot to space the floor.

For the Sixers, they have some pretty good shooters on the roster in Seth Curry, Danny Green, and Tobias Harris, but as a team, they have not taken too many attempts from deep. They averaged 21.8 attempts from deep on the road trip and it cost them in a way.

They only took 23 shots from deep while Utah took 45 in Monday’s loss to the Jazz. They did not really give themselves a chance to win the game with their shot selection despite getting a career-high 42 from Ben Simmons and Harris scoring 36.

“For us, more 3s is definitely a thing that we’ll continue to try to look at, but I think we’ve still been efficient with the 2s that we’ve been making,” said Harris. “Simple math, a 3 is greater than 2, but it’s about the looks we’re getting from 3.”

The NBA season is a long and grueling one and there will be ups and downs so when it comes to 3-point attempts, there will be games where the number is high and games where they are low. The most 3-point attempts the Sixers attempted came on Jan. 12 against the Miami Heat when they took 55 of them and made 19 in a win.

“Just ebbs and flows of the season, long season,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I think when our defense is really good, we tend to get more 3s, when our defense is average, we tend to get less 3s. A lot of our 3s come in transition off of misses. I would say that’s probably the reason.”

At the end of the day, the Sixers want to get more attempts from deep and in order to do that, they will need to get more ball movement and get the shooters involved.

“We want to get open looks and good 3s over the course of a game,” Harris added. “I think that’s something that we definitely want to get more of at some point.”
