Anthony Davis on return for the Lakers ‘I don’t think I rushed back’

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis doesn’t believe his return to the floor was rushed.

The Los Angeles Lakers had a rare bad night on the road on Sunday night across the board. Not only did the Lakers drop a road game for only the third time so far this season, but the Lakers also had a major alarm go off during the second quarter of Sunday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets when Anthony Davis re-aggravated his right Achilles tendon, which bothered him enough to keep him out of two games last week.

Of course, the immediate reaction from many regarding Davis was a question: why, if the Lakers superstar big man was dealing with Achilles soreness in the past week, was he allowed to return after missing only two regular-season games? Davis pushed back on the idea that he rushed back to the floor, stating he believes the setback was just the unfortunate result of the collision with Jokic on Sunday.

Davis addressed the injury with reporters on Sunday night, according to SB Nation’s Harrison Faigen.

“I felt great coming back the first time against Memphis, and I’m going to do the same thing, the same steps to get it back right. I feel like l was ready to go, training staff felt like I was ready to go. I did pickup the day before the Memphis game and it felt fine, woke up the next day and felt fine.

“I think we did all the right steps to come back, and after the Memphis game it felt good the next day. It felt good yesterday and all up to today it felt great. It felt great in the first quarter, it felt great from the time I was in in the second quarter until the last play,” Davis said. “I think it was just the way I moved and stepped that re-aggravated that injury, but I don’t think I rushed back.”

While Davis clearly trusts in both his process and the care he is getting from the Lakers medical staff. However, they will learn more about the status of Davis’ leg when he receives an MRI later today.
