Upset win over Vols helps LSU move up in NCAA’s NET rankings

LSU men’s basketball could be trending up in the NCAA’s NET rankings at just the right time.

Two weeks ago, LSU was on the brink of falling out of the top 40 in the NCAA’s NET rankings, but the Tigers are moving up at the right time. LSU’s upset victory over the Tennessee Volunteers over the weekend helped the Tigers continue to climb back up the NCAA’s metric.

LSU is beginning this week ranked No. 26 in the NCAA’s updated NET rankings, moving up one spot from the previous update as the Tigers have continued to be rebounding in the rankings. Boosting LSU’s record is an improved 3-5 record in Quad 1 games.

Two weeks ago, LSU was 0-5 in Quad 1 games, suggesting the NCAA’s overall outlook of LSU has improved. The timing of this development could not have been much better because LSU is looking to finish on a strong note heading into the SEC tournament ahead of the NCAA’s Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament.

LSU is currently the fourth-highest ranked team in the SEC in the updated NET rankings. Alabama (No. 9) is ranked the highest in the NET rankings among SEC schools. Tennessee, despite losing to LSU, remains No. 12 in the updated rankings. Arkansas is No. 24, two spots ahead of LU. The Florida Gators are now two spots behind the Tigers. Missouri (No. 37) slipped a spot from its previous ranking and could be trending in the wrong direction.

The schedule this week is a favorable one for LSU to continue holding strong in the NET rankings. LSU will visit Ole Miss (No. 55) on Wednesday. LSU topped the Rebels last month, 75-61.

On Saturday, LSU will host Auburn (No. 65). This will be the first and only meeting with Auburn this season.
