On Saturday, the Golden State Warriors will welcome Kevin Durant back to the Bay Area for his highly-anticipated first appearance at Chase Center as a member of the Brooklyn Nets.
Since returning from his Achilles injury, Durant is averaging 29.5 points on 52.9% shooting from the field with 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest with Brooklyn. The former Golden State Finals Most Valuable Player has missed the Nets’ previous three games due to health and safety protocols. Yet, Durant has been cleared and will be available against his former club.
Saturday’s contest will be a rematch of the NBA season opener between the Nets and Warriors. Brooklyn blasted Golden State by 26 points back in December. However, both teams are rather different in February. The Nets lineup will now feature former MVP James Harden alongside Durant and Kyrie Irving.
In the first matchup between Brooklyn and Golden State, Steph Curry only tallied 20 points on 7-of-21 shooting from the field. Coming into Saturday’s matchup with the Nets, Curry is playing on a different level. After torching the Orlando Magic for 40 points, the Golden State point guard is averaging 37.8 points on 56.8% shooting from the field and 50.6% shooting from beyond the arc. With James Wiseman and Kevon Looney sidelined on Saturday, Steve Kerr and the Warriors will need to lean on Curry against the Nets.
