A pair of former University of Tennessee basketball players were in action in the NBA Friday night.
Their respective teams got mixed results on the hardwood.
In Dallas, the Mavericks nabbed a victory in a shootout as they outlasted the New Orleans, 143-130, at American Airlines Center.
VFL Josh Richardson stared and scored 11 points for the Mavericks, who improved to 12-14 on the season.
He played 33 minutes and had six assists and two rebounds against the Pelicans (11-14). Richardson was 2-for-6 from the floor and went 1-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc. He made all four of his free throw attempts.
In Boston, former Vol Grant Williams scored one point and pulled down four rebounds in the Celtics’ 108-102 loss to Detroit at TD Garden.
Williams, a power forward and 2019 first-round draft pick, logged 25 minutes of court time and had two steals and an assist for Boston (13-12).
With the win, the Pistons improved to 7-19 this season.
