From 2007-2011, Bruce Arians was the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He took the position after being the team’s wide receivers coach from 2004-2006. The Steelers went to two Super Bowls during Arians five-game tenure as offensive coordinator and the offense was the best it’s ever been since Mike Tomlin took over as head coach.
Part of the reason was Arians connection with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and how he maximized the potential of the then-young quarterback. But according to Arians, his loyalty to Roethlisberger was what ultimately cost him his job with the Steelers.
Arians led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win this past season and has proven once again he is among the best coaches in the NFL. The Steelers have never been as good as they were when Arians ran the offense and considering how long Pittsburgh kept Randy Fitchnter around due to his relationship with Roethlisberger, it is unfortunate they couldn’t have done the same with Arians.
