University of Tennessee basketball player Keon Johnson has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.
Johnson scored 27 points to lead the Volunteers to an 82-71 SEC victory over Kentucky on Saturday at Rupp Arena.
His offensive output was a career-high and helped Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes defeat the Wildcats in Lexington for the second consecutive season.
Johnson, who hails from Shelbyville and is a graduate of the Webb School in Bell Buckle, also had four rebounds and three assists for the Vols (13-4, 6-4 SEC), who erased a 42-34 halftime deficit against the Wildcats (5-12, 4-6).
Fellow freshman Jaden Springer also scored a career-high 23 points at Kentucky. He has been named SEC Freshman of the Week twice this season, on Dec. 21 and Feb. 1.
