Brandon Marshall explains why Russell Wilson ‘is beyond frustrated’ with the Seahawks

Let Russ cook — or else.

Former Seattle Seahawks receiver and current FOX Sports analyst Brandon Marshall suggested there’s significant tension between quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.

“Russell Wilson is beyond frustrated,” Marshall said Tuesday on FS1’s First Things First. “I think Russell Wilson is trying to figure out how to move on in a classy way.”

Marshall added: “I think Russ wants to stay there but he knows Pete Carroll’s going to continue to give him the runaround.”

The source of the tension? Marshall thinks the Seahawks aren’t making big enough investments in their offensive line. He also thinks Seattle isn’t featuring Wilson as prominently as he deserves.

Here’s more from Marshall.

NFL teams have inquired about trading for Wilson, but the Seahawks have no interest in moving him, per NFL Network. Wilson admitted he thinks it’s entirely possible teams would call with interest, but didn’t know if the Seahawks were making him available for a trade. They’re not, the Seattle Times confirmed. Even so, it sounds like Wilson isn’t thrilled with Seattle.

“I know the Seahawks don’t believe in Russ because I was there,” Marshall said. “Every day before practice, I would sit there with the quarterbacks, with coach Schotty (offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer) and Russell Wilson and we would talk shop. And we would do quarterback drills. I would actually be in quarterback drills. … So I heard a lot of stuff. ‘Well, this week Pete wants to run a little bit more.’ ‘Well, what about this, can we get into this a little bit sooner? Or what about our no-huddle offense?’ And it was like, ‘No this is what Pete wants.’ There’s a huge philosophical difference there in Seattle.”

Wilson is on contract through 2023, and because of how the deal is structured, it becomes easier for the Seahawks to trade the quarterback with every season that passes. This offseason has the potential to be an insane spin of the quarterback carousel, with Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff already moving. It seems Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz are next. A Wilson trade, however, still feels farfetched.
