The Philadelphia 76ers had themselves a successful road trip the last time they left the Wells Fargo Center. They went 3-0 on the trip including a thrilling comeback win over the Indiana Pacers while missing superstar Joel Embiid.
Now, they have to keep it going and continue to build momentum on the road.
The Sixers understand they were not a good road team in the 2019-20 season. They were 10-24 on the road before the season was suspended in March and they started 3-5 on the road in the 2020-21 season before the 3-0 trip.
So the goal for this upcoming west coast road trip starting Tuesday is simple. They got to get some wins.
“We just got to continue to get better,” said Tobias Harris. “We’ve been saying all year we want to be better on the road. We can’t be content with our last road trip. This is a brand new road trip for us.”
The trip starts against the Sacramento Kings who are playing better basketball as of late before trips to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Phoenix Suns, and finishing up against Utah Jazz. All of those teams have been playing good basketball and the Blazers just beat the Sixers on Feb. 4 despite not having Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, or Jusuf Nurkic.
“We’re going to face some really good teams and we have to be ready,” Harris added. “We have to be dominant throughout this whole trip and continue to progress night after night. We’re just looking to really progress, every single game, and then that’s really the focus.”
Of course, the Sixers do have one of the better starting lineups in the league. The lineup of Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Danny Green, Harris, and Embiid is a perfect 13-0 to begin the season. Philadelphia will need to keep those guys healthy and continue to grow as a team.
“Defensively, we’ve been very solid, overall,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I think we have Joel playing in a great place and a great spot. I think our guys understand how to play around him, which has been nice. I think putting the ball in Ben’s hands more has been a big change for us and I think all those things have worked for us.”
It all starts on Tuesday in a new test for this team.
