The Super Bowl official marks the end of the NFL season but it does not mark the end of the league year. Starting now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have about five weeks to get their affairs in order before the league year officially begins on March 17.

The first order of business for the Steelers between now and March 17 is going to be sorting out the contract of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben is currently on the books for $41 million in 2021 but both sides have said that isn’t the number he will play at this season.

Pittsburgh’s front office is savvy when it comes to the salary cap but given the Steelers will start the new league year somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million over the cap, there is work to be done.

Roethlisberger’s contract isn’t the only one the Steelers will look to address in the coming weeks. Once free agency starts in March, Pittsburgh has an extensive list of high-profile free agents who will be looking for new contracts, whether that is in Pittsburgh or somewhere else.

After Roethlisberger’s contract, what do you consider the next top priority for the Steelers heading into free agency? Let us know in the comments.
