Only one former University of Tennessee player was in action Friday night in the NBA and he started and had one of the best performances of his young professional career.
Second-year power forward Grant Williams got a rare start and scored 11 points in the Boston Celtics’ 119-115 victory over the Clippers at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Williams grabbed a late rebound and was a driving force in Boston’s comeback win over the Clippers (17-7) in a late-night tilt on the West Coast.
The Celtics (12-9) got off to a sluggish start and fell behind 33-21 in the first quarter. Boston, however, turned the tide, by outscoring Los Angeles 38-20 in the third stanza.
Williams, who played 32 minutes (including 17 in the first half), also pulled down four rebounds and dished out two assists in Boston’s wins against Los Angeles, a favorite to win the Western Conference for the second consecutive season.
