And now Michigan football’s changing of the guard on the coaching staff is truly paying off.

Since Jim Harbaugh revamped the coaching staff nearly from top-to-bottom with young go-getters, the new Wolverines coaches have been grinding on the recruiting trail. While there was some payoff on national signing day for the 2021 class, where we’re truly seeing remarkable progress is in 2022, with coaches like Maurice Linguist having a tangible effect in luring top talent to Ann Arbor.

Such is the case of 2022 Cross Plains (TN) East Robertson four-star safety/wide receiver Taylor Groves, who Michigan made a 247Sports Crystal Ball run on starting early Thursday. Groves is rated No. 188 overall according to 247Sports’ proprietary rankings and is the 15th-best safety in the recruiting class. With offers from the likes of LSU, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State and Texas A&M, Groves has opportunities from many of the top schools in the country. But he ended his process early on Friday, committing to the maize and blue.

Michigan offered Groves just weeks ago on Jan. 27, and Linguist and safeties coach George Helow have worked hard in short time to secure him. Once again, he’s the Wolverines’ fifth commitment in the 2022 class and joins defensive tackle commit Alex VanSumeren as the highest-rated commit in the class, depending on recruiting service you go by.

The pledge moves Michigan up from No. 17 in the 247Sports team rankings to No. 10 in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
